Costs and savings

Loft insulation plays a crucial role in maintaining energy efficiency in homes by reducing heat loss through the roof. A detached house, for example, can save up to £380 per year* on energy bills with proper loft insulation. Heat naturally rises, and without insulation, a significant amount escapes, requiring more energy to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. By adding insulation, homes can retain warmth during colder months and stay cooler in warmer seasons, leading to long-term energy savings and reduced carbon emissions.

Under the GBIS grant, eligible homeowners can have loft insulation installed at no cost, making it an accessible solution for improving energy efficiency. Insulating the loft is beneficial for various property types, including detached, semi-detached, and mid-terrace homes. In addition to financial savings, it contributes to a more sustainable environment by lowering overall energy consumption. Investing in loft insulation not only enhances indoor comfort but also supports efforts to reduce household carbon footprint

Composition and Properties

Earthwool Loft Roll 44 is composed of glass mineral wool, which is made from high-quality spun glass fibers. This non-combustible, resilient, and durable material is designed to provide excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. It is manufactured without any added dyes, binders, or harmful chemicals, making it a safe and eco-friendly choice for loft insulation.

One of the key benefits of Earthwool Loft Roll 44 is its breathable structure, which allows moisture to escape while preventing condensation buildup. This helps to reduce the risk of dampness, mould, and structural damage within the loft space. Unlike rigid insulation boards that require cutting and fitting, this flexible roll format conforms to the space, ensuring complete coverage without gaps or voids.

Key Features:
✓  Lightweight and Flexible – Easy to handle and install, with minimal effort.
✓  Moisture Resistant – Prevents condensation buildup, reducing the risk of mould.
✓  Non-Combustible – Offers superior fire safety with high-temperature resistance.
✓  Sustainable Choice – Manufactured using a high percentage of recycled glass.
✓  No Artificial Additives – Free from binders, dyes, and harmful chemicals.

Thermal Performance

Earthwool Loft Roll 44 is engineered to improve energy efficiency by reducing heat loss through the loft space. Its low thermal conductivity (0.044 W/mK) ensures effective insulation, keeping homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer. When installed correctly, it minimizes thermal bridging—areas where heat can escape—ensuring consistent indoor temperatures with reduced reliance on heating and cooling systems.

Loft insulation with Earthwool Loft Roll 44 helps homeowners save on energy bills while contributing to environmental sustainability by reducing overall carbon emissions. Unlike some insulation materials that degrade over time, Earthwool Loft Roll 44 retains its insulating properties long-term, providing continuous energy savings.

Fire Safety and Compliance

Safety is a crucial consideration when installing loft insulation, and Earthwool Loft Roll 44 meets the highest fire safety standards. Classified as non-combustible (Euroclass A1 fire rating), it does not contribute to the spread of fire within a building.

Unlike some synthetic insulation materials, Earthwool Loft Roll 44 does not produce toxic smoke or flaming droplets in case of a fire. Its mineral fiber composition ensures high resistance to heat, making it a safer choice for residential and commercial properties. Compliance with BS EN 13162:2008 and other regulatory standards guarantees that it meets the necessary safety and performance requirements.

Sustainability & Environmental Impact

As part of Simple Green Energy’s commitment to sustainability, Earthwool Loft Roll 44 is an eco-friendly insulation material that minimizes environmental impact. It is manufactured with a high percentage of recycled glass, reducing waste while maintaining exceptional performance.

✓  Zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) – Free from harmful substances like CFCs and HCFCs.
✓  Zero GWP (Global Warming Potential) – Contributes to lower carbon emissions.
✓  Long-Lasting Performance – Does not degrade over time, ensuring sustainability.
