Can ECO4 fund solar panels and a heat pump together?
Yes. Ofgem classifies hydronic air-source heat pumps as renewable heating. Solar PV can be eligible where the home already has, or receives within the project, a hydronic heat pump or another qualifying electric heating system.
The solar system must be configured so that some generated electricity is used by equipment that heats the home; it cannot simply export everything to the grid. ECO4-funded solar capacity is capped at 10kWp per home, including any existing array.
The type of heat pump matters. ECO4 recognises air-to-water systems, which supply a wet central-heating circuit. Ofgem’s current guidance says air-to-air systems are not treated as renewable systems under ECO4.
